Is there a dish your family expects you to make every Thanksgiving? My family depends on my Cabbage Casserole. They think I spend so much time making it, but little do they know it’s super simple. Make your own this year!
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups corn flakes, crushed
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 4 1/2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9 pan, set aside.
- Toss cornflakes and butter, and sprinkle half into pan.
- Layer cabbage, onion, salt and pepper.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine soup and mayonnaise; spoon over the casserole. Sprinkle with cheese and remaining cornflake mixture.
- Bake, uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays because it’s about nothing more than coming together with family and loved ones to give thanks and count your blessings. With just over one week until the big day, use this Thanksgiving feast checklist to host your own meal without breaking a sweat.
1 WEEK BEFORE THE MEAL
- Plan your menu.
- Create a grocery list and buy nonperishable items.
- Get ahead of meal prep. Bake items you can freeze.
3 DAYS BEFORE THE MEAL
- Buy the turkey (if you plan to buy frozen), and place in the refrigerator so it has time to thaw.
- Shop for perishable ingredients.
- Set the table.
- Plan kid-friendly activities. Cover the kids’ table with butcher paper and set out crayons.
2 DAYS BEFORE THE MEAL
- Start cooking.
- Buy fresh flowers so blooms have time to open.
1 DAY BEFORE THE MEAL
- Finish preparing each dish.
- Make a timeline. Count backward from the time you plan to start eating to determine when to put each dish in the oven. Save time by cooking different dishes simultaneously in a double-range oven.
DURING THE MEAL
- Ensure dishes are served at the perfect temperature. Store them in a warming drawer until ready.
- Incorporate a family activity. Ask everyone to come up with at least one thing they’re thankful for, then go around the table as each person says it aloud.
